My cousin, Christina was married Saturday October 18th in Richmond at a local church, where I was a bridesmaid. Her reception was held at Tuckahoe Plantation , on historic property where Thomas Jefferson grew up. The day was gorgeous, she was stunning, and her bridesmaids (dressed in Bel Fiore attire) didn’t look too bad either!
I thought I’d share with you my “Top 6 Tips” from her wedding:
1. Plan, Plan, Plan. Her planning and organization benefited her and everyone involved. She sent all of her bridesmaids and groomsmen a printed itinerary (on cute stationary that matched the theme of her wedding!) with where to be, what time, and the attire for all of the wedding weekend events.
2. Combine warmth and cuteness. Since the reception was outdoors and under a tent, the October evening air was a little chilly. As a part of our bridesmaid gifts, she included the cutest chocolate Pashminas to be worn once the ceremony was over. They were warm and fashionable…What can be better than that? 3. Keep your out-of-town guests in mind. The bride has family from all over, so it was expected that we book many rooms in the hotel. The room options were great, they offered the normal king bed or 2 queen beds, and also offered a 2 bedroom suite as well. I know that a few of her bridesmaids took advantage of this, and shared the other bedroom in the suite with their parents (more cost-effective!). It also made a convenient place to have “The Glam Squad” (our hair and makeup personnel, Lou Stevens) meet us for our day-of makeovers! Check out the Hilton’s Homewood Suites site to see their locations, there may be one near your event.
4. Emergency Kits are a must! The morning of the wedding, her bridesmaids gave the bride her “day of” gift, including a Wedding Day Emergency Kit. To all of you reading, note this gift idea. I don’t know what we would’ve done without it! We used the needle and thread to stitch the knot of her sash in place, just incase. We also used the scissors to snip loose threads from the lace off of her bridal gown. For tips and ideas to include in your emergency kit, check out my previous blog here.
5. Allow time for photos. The wedding was over by 3 pm and the reception started at 4:30. From the church, she rented an old-fashioned trolley that took us to the University of Richmond campus and took unique photos all around the historic school’s grounds. During our photo shoot, the wedding guests enjoyed a cocktail hour and hors devours at Tuckahoe Plantation until we arrived. There was plenty of time to get her memories on film and the guests were entertained until the reception started.
6. Have a wedding website. Not only can you include cute photos of you and your fiance, but you can provide helpful information to your bridal party and your guests. List the recommended accomodations, your gift registeries, how you met, and more. Their’s includes a guest book that allows people to post their comments, too. It’s entertaining and informational! See their’s at ChadandChristina.com.
The wedding and reception were full of memorable details, but I can only include a few! I’ll be sure to post photos once I receive them! Chad and Christina had a beautiful event and I know they’ll enjoy their life together!
Anything memorable that you can think of from a wedding you’ve been in/attended? Post it!
