Based on 8 attendants, 150 guests, and a seated reception, here are 10 ways to save!
1. Book a venue that’s already decorated, like a garden, aquarium, or museum. You won’t need to spring for pricey items like wreaths, columns, and chandeliers to make your location look beautiful. *Meghan’s Tip: If having a ceremony in a church, plan your wedding around a religious holiday (Christmas, Easter, etc) and you can save on decor for the ceremony by using their flowers, etc they’ve put up.
2. Limit the number of bridesmaids and groomsmen. You’ll cut down on how many bouquets, bouteonnieres, and attendants’ gifts you have to buy.
3. Consider DIY wedding stationary. Print invitations, programs, menus, etc on bulk paper and cardstock. For a personal touch, add a monogram or use your initials using a rubber stamp.
4. Use potted flowering herbs or fresh produce (lemons, limes, oranges) for centerpieces. They can cost half the price of floral centerpieces.
5. Rent anything you thought you had to buy – ice coolers, lanterns, potted plants. Let’s face it, you’re never going to use those tikki torches again.
6. Forgo the champagne toast. Instead, have guests salute you with whatever beverage they have in hand, even if it’s just sparkling water or soda.
7. Ditch the dessert bar. After cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and a mulitcourse meal, guests probably won’t have room for more than wedding cake.
8. Take DIY to another level and make homemade cookies as favors. Slip these treats into vellum envelopes so guests can savor them at home.
9. Order a small, tiered cake that makes a statement. Then serve up slices from a sheet cake that’s identical in flavor and frosting.
10. Aim for simplicity with your wedding cake. The more candy butterflies and fondant seashells you ask for, the bigger your bakery bill will be.
